Saudi Arabia to spend 175 mln riyals annually on mobile desalination

Saudi Arabia is planning to spend 175 million riyals annually to purchase desalinated water from mobile stations to meet growing demand.

The Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Corporation for Desalination of Salt Water Engineer Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli said the allocation of the annual funding, on the orders of Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, would help to increase the supply of desalinated water in a short timescale, until other desalination projects currently underway are completed.

The mobile stations for water desalination, which use RO technology, will initially be used in the Jazan and Asir regions to increase water supply and will then be transferred to other areas.
